Fully Enjoy All The Spring Has To Offer With Spring Breathe
There is something in the air; an explosion of pink and white cherry blossoms, bright sunlight behind puffy clouds, early flowers beginning to pop up and spot yards and parks with lively colors! Ahhh, Spring! And along with the joy and frivolity of shuffling off winter’s long reach, for some of us, there is something else in the air too; allergies!
To combat the minor sniffles and eye-redness that comes with the season, we created Spring Breathe: a sweet and lively combination of herbs designed to support your body’s ability to lessen symptoms associated with allergies.
Ingredients: Fenugreek, Liquorice root, Nettle, Yerba Santa, Yarrow, Eyebright,
For myself, the worst part of my allergic reactions is the puffiness and soreness of itchy eyes! Eyebright (Euphrasia) is a blessing- used by classical herbalists for centuries to reduce swelling and other symptoms in the throat and nasal passage, it has also been prescribed for relief of eye strain, itchiness and inflammation.
Liquorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) is another key ingredient that helps to lessen inflammation in airways, and reduce irritation in the throat and chest. It has a soothing, viscous quality that also coats the palate and throat, all just icing on the cake when you think of the sweet flavor it brings to the drink. Another ingredient, Yarrow (Achillea millefolium), has also been shown in studies to indeed have the antiphlogistic (anti-inflammatory) affects that traditional use has assigned it for centuries.
Most notable in aroma, next to sweet Liquorice, is Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum) a little seed that adds a beautiful color and maple syrup flavor to the drink.
Yerba Santa (Piper auritum) has long been recognized by herbalists as one of our best decongestants. It will, by decreasing secretions and the underlying inflammation, quickly address incipient bronchitis, early symptoms of moist, humid asthma, or the beginnings of a runny nose from as head cold or sinus allergy. We follow classic usage by combining Yerba Santa (a membrane drier) with Liquorice (a membrane moistener) to increase fluid secretion, thus “squeezing the sponge” as Michael Moore says, to really flush out any irritants.
Overall, we sought to produce a lovely Tisane that would allow the user to enjoy all those senses (sight, smell, taste) which are too often robbed by allergy season. Swing by the shop and have a cup on us- and try for yourself breathing a little easier this spring.
